CFI 40th Anniversary and Balik-Culion Program Launch
On November 5, 2016, Culion Foundation, Inc. (CFI) launched its Balik-Culion Program. The occasion was graced by Hon. Maria Leonor Gerona-Robredo, Vice President of the Philippines, and attended by approximately a thousand participants from different partner-agencies, namely the local government of Culion, Culion Sanitarium and General Hospital, local district of the Department of Education, the Parish Youth Ministry, as well as the beneficiaries of CFI.
The launching of the program also marked the 40th Anniversary of CFI with its slogan, “Strengthening health systems and empowering communities,” specifically aimed to strengthen its presence in Culion and Northern Palawan as well as to pursue new programs linking health and resilient and sustainable development, in other parts of the country.
The short program was held at the Immaculate Conception Church, courtesy of the parish priest, Fr. Roderick Caabay. The highlight of the ceremony was the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs), covering the following CFI projects: Youth Involvement in Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation supported by the Cross International; Culion Water Sources Development and Water Distribution supported by the Peace and Equity Foundation, Inc.; Supplementary Feeding Program for Preschool Children and Lactating Mothers supported by the Hapagasa Program of the Assisi Development Foundation, Inc.; Biodiversity Conservation-Friendly Enterprise Development supported by the United Nations Development Programme–Small Grants Project; and Support for Patients afflicted by Leprosy. The MOUs concretized the commitment of the local government of Culion, the CFI and its identified partner line agencies and offices in implementing and sustaining the projects that the Balik-Culion Program is committed to pursue. These projects are in addition to CFI’s ongoing Assistance to Small Enterprises Development project.
The program was facilitated by the Executive Director of CFI. It formally started upon the arrival of Vice President Maria Leonor G. Robredo, who officiated a wreath laying at the tomb of Fr. Javier Olazabal, SJ, the founder of CFI, and the offering of flowers at the statue of the Immaculate Conception, Patroness of Culion. Mr. Alberto Lim delivered the welcome remarks.
