CFI attends 23rd PhilCAT Convention

Culion Foundation, Inc. (CFI), represented by its Executive Director and its Resource Mobilization Officer, participated in the 23rd Philippine Coalition Against Tuberculosis (PhilCAT) Convention on August 18 to 19, 2016 at the Crowne Plaza Manila in Quezon City. The two-day convention, with a theme of “End TB in Children: Philippine Clinical Practice Guidelines 2016,” consisted of 14 lectures on pediatric tuberculosis such as the following: 1) What is happening to TB control around the world; 2) Change is coming to the Philippine NTP; 3) New kid on the block: the new TB law; 4) Introducing the updated TB CPG in childhood tuberculosis; 5) Hitting the road: reducing uncertainty in the clinical diagnosis of childhood TB; 6) New diagnostics in TB: at the crossroads; 7) Taking a stand: rational use of diagnostic tests for childhood TB; 8) Recommendations for the treatment of LTBI: moving in one direction; 9) Treatment of childhood TB: issues and controversies; 10) Forging ahead with recommendations for the treatment of childhood TB such as pulmonary TB and extra-pulmonary TB, TB meningitis, and TB of the bones and joints; 11) Off the beaten path: diagnosis and treatment of MDR TB in children; 12) Management of TB in vulnerable groups such as infants, adolescents, and elderly; 13) Perspectives on TB in HIV in children and adolescents; and 14) On course with one voice: TB in the mother and child. In addition, a symposia was also held during the second day of the convention which consisted of four lectures such as the following: 1) TB alliance – the new fixed dose combination; 2) Highlights of the Philippine TB Clinical Practice Guidelines; 3) Using the road map for better health service delivery; and 4) Improving influenza with quadrivalent influenza vaccines. The choir of the Center for Community Transformation, an active partner of CFI, rendered an intermission presentation.
