Technical Assistance to DOH-ARMM in Implementing the Modified Leprosy Elimination Campaign

Project Implementation: August to October 2015
The Modified Leprosy Elimination Campaign (MLEC) Project focused on capacitating locally formed Leprosy Health Teams (LHT) in implementing quality leprosy service. Capacity building training was provided with the conceptual coverage in: Basic Leprosy Management Course; Skill Development and Innovative Approaches; and, Planning Workshop. Project implementation included daily active case-finding activities, i.e., Kilatis Kutis, and the conduct of behavioral survey on the Attitudinal Responses of Persons Affected by Leprosy Towards Leprosy as a Disease Condition. The LHTs were committed in executing the project activities to ensure achievement of set targets.

Overall Objective:
- To contribute to the National Leprosy Control Program in the Philippines by maximizing the engagement of public health care workers in the adoption of Modified Leprosy Elimination Campaign at the local levels with the commitment to actively participate in sustaining the quality of leprosy services in ARMM provinces (Basilan and Tawi-Tawi) and to ensure its accessibility to all persons affected by leprosy.

- To promote advocacy and capacity building to public healthcare providers and secure their commitment to provide Modified Leprosy Elimination Campaign and quality leprosy services through active case-finding;
- To improve the capabilities of public health care workers on Modified Leprosy Elimination Campaign and sustain quality leprosy service delivery.
- To contribute to DOH-NLCP leprosy cases successfully initiated treatment management
- To capacitate Leprosy Health Teams and improve capabilities of Healthcare Workers in leprosy services delivery
- To advocate the LGU partnership and commitment supporting the leprosy control program.
